November 12, 2010Transformation, the Gift of Yoga, Spa Retreat Contest, and an Oregon Chai Twitter Party

I'm feeling like a little variety today, so today's post is a mixed bag...

I've always enjoyed Kundalini Yoga's 40-day sadhanas. The folks over at Spirit Voyage are sponsoring a 40-day Bound Lotus Global Sadhana. Even though the sadhana officially started a few days ago, it's never too late to start. It is believed that Bound Lotus is a posture of powerful transformation and healing, with some of its benefits being:

Helps enhance physical flexibility. The ankles, knees, legs and spine gain increased mobility. Helps open up the shoulders and hips.Helps to improve the digestive system.Helps to strengthen the immune and nervous systems.Helps to open the flow and clear the Chakras.Helps to eradicate karmic obstacles, negative tendencies and patterns acquired over lifetimes. Helps to develop the state of stillness (Shuniya), supreme bliss (Anand), and awakened consciousness (Samadhi).

If you'd like to spend the next 40 days practicing this powerful sadhana, check out this fantastic video, which offers a variety of modifications for those of us who can't sit in Lotus comfortably (ouch -- my knees hurt just thinking about it). Before you begin this sadhana, you might also want to check out these Bound Lotus warm-ups.

The Gift of Yoga

Lululemon stores nationwide are offering patrons the gift of yoga in the form of free passes to local yoga studios. All you have to do is visit your local Lululemon store. Click here for all for all of the juicy details.

Win an Exhale Spa Retreat

If you're desiring a break from daily stress in a warmer climate, there are a still 3 more days to enter the Exhale Spa Retreat giveaway sponsored by Refinery29 and YogaEarth. The grand prize is a three-day spa retreat -- valued at $2,400 -- in Palm Beach (plus other goodies from Manduka, Pangea, and YogaEarth). Other prizes include yoga mats and YogaEarth nutritional supplements. Click here to enter. Winners will be announced November 15th. Good luck!

Get Tips for Staying Calm Throughout the Holiday Season @ the Orgeon Chai Twitter Party

Thanks to social media, there are now such things as Twitter parties. On Tuesday, November 16th from 7-8:00 PM CST, Orgeon Chai will be hosting an hourlong Twitter-fest featuring wellness expert Peggy Hall sharing tips for staying calm and collected this holiday season as well as advice for sharing the gift of "me time" with loved ones. Free chai-related gifts will be given away throughout the hour. To join, bring your questions and follow @OregonChai and @PeggyHall. The party hash tag to win is #OregonChai. In the meantime, if you'd like to get a $1 coupon for Oregon Chai products, click here.

I'm going to end this post on a heart-opening note -- earlier in the week, The Huffington Post featured an insightful article on Anusara Yoga which really captures the essence of the style. Enjoy!

Namaste!

Y is for Yogini

I love bound lotus. Such a beautiful pose! :) I feel calm in it and appreciative of my body.
